Always include model numbers since problems are sometimes associated with particular models. This may be a sign that a line surge during power fluctuations has damaged the power supply. There are a least two supplies in any modern set; a small supply that provides voltage to the remote circuitry and this one is always on.
The second supply is the main one that is turned on when the set is to be used.
Reluctance to turn on is often a signal that certain components (capacitors) are failing in the main supply and they will continue to degenerate.
Try pulling the plug and leaving the set overnight without any power. If a circuit is only 'confused' (locked up) this should reset everything.
If it still will not turn on, then either the small supply for the remote circuitry was damaged during a surge or that the main power supply is not responding to the power on command.
