Something has left a magnetic field on the face of the picture tube, which causes the distorted colors. This can often happen if the set is moved around, or if you start or stop a motorized device like a vacuum cleaner near the set. Removing this stray field is called degaussing. There is an internal degaussing circuit in every color set that operates when you first turn it on, but it sometimes can't cope with too strong a field. Or some part (usually a thermistor) fails and the circuit doesn't work. A hand-held external degaussing coil can be used to clear up the screen in these cases.Another possibility is that the picture tube is bad. There is a metal screen called the shadow mask behind the face of the tube. If this mask gets warped it can cause the color distortion, but since it's an internal physical defect it can't be repaired except by replacing the tube. The shadow mask can be warped by an excessively large magnetic field (say from a child playing with magnets against the tube face to look at the pretty colors), or if the set has been dropped. If the shadow mask is causing the trouble, replace the TV. The cost and labor of a tube replacement makes it uneconomical, especially in a smaller set.Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!
Your TVs Degausing coil is not working. Degausing coil is one, which fitted around the picture tube internally, to demagnatize it at each time you switch on the tv. if you are using your TV without switching it off by its mains switch, and turn it to an other direction, this effect will occcur. You just switch off the TV by its main switch, and leave it for about 1/2 an hour, and then switch it on, and see whether it helps or not.
If not, the degausing posistor inside fitted on the circuit board of the TV, has to be replaced. It can be located on the power supply input section of your TVs circuit board. Ok.
