Philips LCD TV 47PFL5604H 47" Full HD 1080p digital TV with Pixel Plus HD. The problem is that after a bout 5mins of opperation the picture goes and all i'm left with is sound.Put it on standby and restart it stays the same, but unplug it for a few mins it will work for the same 5 mins after startup. i updated the software but this didn't help?

The set is doing this. because, as while it is ON, there is a fault, this fault, condition, is sensed by the Power Supply, and if serious enough, say, bad enough to or likely to cause a fire, or an explosion, or both, it attempts to "Shut Down" the Power Supply, and hence the rest of the set as well.. The faulty component(s), then cools down, and it may work again, this will continue, until the Component(s) "Breakdown" completely, and cause an anomaly, and thus the system shuts down. However this is just a Symptom, and is NOT the Cause. Both will have to be diagnosed and repaired. Often, sets will work, under a low draw situation, but fail, if say there is a complex picture, or the volume was turned up, and others just fail. When I get a TV like this to service, it is often very difficult and "Thermal" faults, and time dependent ones, are difficult.and usually "Multi-Horned" But unfortunately, there can be such a number of "Causes" for similar, "Symptoms", that, the set must really be looked at by a professional. I do not think, it will be too expansive a job, they are worth repairing too. So, it is nearly always my professional opinion that you should get a "Quote" form the Manufacturers Recommended Service Center, Now, I cannot stress how important that last point is. Contact their local "Head Office" and ask for a referral. It is even worth the cost of shipping. You see an authorised service agent, will have trained staff, trained on their brand, also they have first hand access to parts, original parts. This will actually save you money and ensure you can actually get it back fixed. Of course asking for a "Quote" also gives on the option of repair or replace. Often my clients,do not go through with repair, unless it is moderate, but in some of the more costly jobs they see it, as do i, that a replacement, with a warranty, is a better option. As an aside here, one could then tear the TV down, and sell the Known Good bits. You'd be surprised who needs parts, I myself often must by from third party sources to effect a repair. So money could be recouped, somewhat,and help out someone else.
